Do you know the transfer ceilings of online services? If not, this article is for you. We’ll introduce remittance limits of Wise, Remitly, Western Union and Profee, so you won’t be surprised when using them.

Why companies set limits

Ever wondered why your online money transfer app suddenly asks for ID, or won't let you send more than a certain amount? It all comes down to cross-border payment regulations that every legitimate money service must follow to protect themselves and you from fraud.

  • KYC (Know Your Customer) requirements mean platforms must verify who you are before letting you move larger sums.
  • AML (Anti-Money Laundering) compliance means the platform is constantly watching for suspicious activity.
  • If a transfer crosses a certain threshold, the platform is legally required to file a CTR (Currency Transaction Report).

All of this is guided by global standards set by the FATF (Financial Action Task Force) compliance, which over 200 countries follow. These limits exist to keep the financial system safe and honest – and to keep you protected too.

Official transaction threshold: Set by the State Bank of Pakistan

When receiving money into Pakistan, there is no legal remittance cap, according to the SBP's Foreign Exchange Manual. It means that you can send as much money as you’d like, but be aware of the banks and services’ transfer ceilings.

As Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, "Overseas Pakistanis are our strength and valuable assets, and their hard-earned remittances play a vital role in Pakistan's development," – so your transfers are very welcome in the country.

If your relatives want to send money from Pakistan, they should know that the SBP regulations set an annual remittance ceiling of 30,000 USD (or equivalent) on card-based transactions in 2026.

Disclaimer: Before we move on to specific companies, remember that exact limits are shown only in your account. Caps are dynamic, may change and depend on your documents and countries of the transfer. The values in this article were taken from the official services’ websites on March 12th, 2026.

Wise: Per-transaction limits

Wise remittance limits depend on the currencies and transfer method:

Currency and method Per-transaction limit
To PKR 35,000,000 PKR (108,500 EUR, as of March 2026)
EUR, paying from the Wise account 20 million EUR
EUR, paying by card 10,000 EUR
EUR, paying by iDEAL 50,000 EUR
EUR, paying by Trustly 1.2 million EUR

You can explore limits for all available currencies on the Wise Help Centre page.

Quick examples to understand Wise limits better:

  1. Sending 500 EUR: You are totally fine. Any method works because this is well under all the limits.
  2. Sending 12,000 EUR: You can’t use a card here because it’s capped at 10,000 EUR. You’ll need to pay from your Wise balance or use iDEAL instead.
  3. Sending over 35,000,000 PKR: Not possible, you should switch to another service or bank.

Remitly: Shifting approaches

Previously, Remitly had a tier system and 24 hours, 30 days, and 180 days caps. Now, the company is shifting to flat per-transfer limits, so if you come across contradicting information, don’t be confused – it’s the consequences of the terms gradually changing.

As of March 12th, Remitly limits vary between remittance corridors. For example, the per-transfer limit for the Eurozone* is 85,000 EUR. Yet, specific PKR restrictions are not listed. More current caps:

  • Australia: 45,000 AUD
  • Canada: 140,000 CAD
  • Czech Republic: 2,100,000 CZK
  • Denmark: 640,000 DKK
  • Liechtenstein: 80,000 CHF
  • New Zealand: 170,000 NZD
  • Norway: 1,010,000 NOK
  • Poland: 360,000 PLN
  • Romania: 430,000 RON
  • Singapore: 130,000 SGD
  • Sweden: 950,000 SEK
  • United Arab Emirates: 110,000 AED
  • United Kingdom: 75,000 GBP
  • United States: 300,000 USD

*Countries included are Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, and Spain.

The values are updated on the Remitly Help Centre page, or you can ask their Customer Support team for assistance.

Profee: Tier system

Your Profee account status defines the limits:

  • Basic: up to 1,000 EUR per year
  • Plus: (identity verified): up to 30,000 EUR per year
  • Premium: (with proof of income): up to 100,000 EUR per year. Your income amount may affect this limit.

Per-transaction limits are linked to delivery methods, so they'll be shown to you during the setup. [b]

For banks and cards, there are no universal limits, so it’s better to ask your recipients. Mobile wallet ceilings depend on the recipient’s account level. These are the caps for upgraded verified accounts:

These limits may change, so check mobile wallets’ official FAQ, websites and apps before sending money.

How to increase the limits

Most services will ask you to verify your identity to increase your limits. Here’s how to do it on the example of Profee:

How to upgrade from Basic to Plus (30,000 EUR annual limit)

  1. Log in to your Profee account.
  2. Go to "Account Levels and Limits".
  3. Click "Upgrade to Plus".
  4. Verify your identity. Upload photos of both sides of your ID card from the country you currently reside in. Make sure the photo is clear.
  5. Complete the liveness check. Turn on your front camera and turn your head so the system can confirm it's really you. The video is not saved after the check.
  6. Prove your address (if asked). Profee may ask for a bank statement, tax document, or utility bill issued in your name within the last 180 days.

Tips for Pakistani expats

Sending money back to Pakistan is one of the most important things you'll manage as an expat. Here's how to do it smartly and avoid unnecessary delays.

  • Verify your account before you need it. Complete your identity verification on whatever platform you use well in advance, especially before Eid or big family expenses.
  • Keep your documents ready and up to date. You'll need a valid passport, proof of address, and sometimes proof of income.
  • Be patient with document checks. Passports and documents sometimes require manual review rather than instant AI verification. This is normal, and it doesn't mean anything is wrong. Just make sure your documents are valid, in date, and clearly photographed.
  • Track your annual and daily transfer limits. Pakistani expats often send money frequently – birthdays, Eid, medical emergencies, and school fees. These add up quickly. Keep track of how much you've sent so you're not caught off guard when you approach your limit.
  • Be extra careful around peak seasons. Eid, weddings, and the start of the school year are times when you're most likely to send larger amounts. Plan ahead, don't leave it to the last minute when delays can cause real stress for your family.
  • Use licensed, regulated services only. Stick to regulated platforms that comply with FATF standards and make secure foreign money transfers. Informal channels may seem faster or cheaper, but they carry serious legal and financial risks for you and the recipient.

FAQ - International remittances to Pakistan

What are the typical transfer limits for transfers to Pakistan?

Transfer limits vary significantly by provider and verification status. Unverified accounts typically face 500–2,500 EUR per transaction limits, while verified accounts often permit 5,000–30,000 EUR per transaction. Some services, for example Profee, allow up to 100,000 EUR for fully verified senders. Verify current limits on each provider's official website, as they change frequently.

How do verification tiers affect my transfer limit to Pakistan?

Higher verification tiers unlock progressively higher transfer limits. The exact thresholds differ by provider and sender's country of residence.

Why does my country of residence affect transfer limits to Pakistan?

Sender's country is subject to its own regulator's AML rules (e.g., FCA in the UK, BaFin in Germany), which impose caps on how much money transfer services can permit per customer.

What is the difference between daily, yearly, and per-transaction transfer limits?

  • Per-transaction limit is the maximum amount permitted in a single transfer.
  • Daily limit caps the total you can send in a single calendar day.
  • The yearly limit sets a ceiling for all transfers in a calendar year.

A service might allow a 5,000 EUR per-transaction limit, 10,000 EUR daily, and 100,000 EUR yearly.
