What is Revolut?
Revolut is a digital bank and financial super-app founded in London in 2015 that supports transfers to 160+ countries in 70+ currencies. It combines international money transfers, multi-currency accounts, savings, stock trading, and crypto under a single app. As of May 2026, it serves over 70 million customers worldwide.
“Our app is so deep, so broad, that maybe a customer is interested in the exchange because they're going on holiday. Maybe someone is in for the savings. So they may come through just one entry point.” – Antoine Le Nel, Chief Growth and Marketing Officer, May 5th, 2026.
Is Revolut safe?
Yes, Revolut is officially regulated and must keep your funds and data protected. The app holds licences across multiple countries:
- UK: Full banking licence from the PRA, supervised by the PRA and FCA (granted March 11th, 2026). Customer accounts are moving to Revolut Bank UK Ltd. Until the full migration, UK customers stay under Revolut Ltd, an FCA-authorised e-money institution.
“The UK is our home market and central to our growth. We look forward to introducing a full suite of banking services to our millions of UK customers, bringing the same innovative experience we already provide across the rest of Europe. ” – Nik Storonsky, Co-Founder and CEO of Revolut, March 11th, 2026.
- EEA: Revolut Bank UAB holds a full banking licence in Lithuania. The license allows cross-border banking across the entire European Economic Area.
- US, Australia, Canada, UAE, and others: Regulated as a money services business or e-money institution in each jurisdiction. Full list at revolut.com/legal.
More on Revolut’s safety:
| Feature | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Deposit protection | In the UK, eligible deposits up to 120,000 GBP are protected by the FSCS (as of May 2026). In practice, this means that if Revolut goes out of business, FSCS will compensate for your loss. In the EEA, deposits are covered by the Lithuanian Deposit Guarantee Scheme (100,000 EUR coverage). |
| Fund safeguarding | Your funds are held in accounts, separate from the company’s funds. Revolut can’t take your money and use it for its needs – if they ever do, it’ll go against the Electronic Money Regulations 2011. |
| Security features | Two-factor authentication, KYC verification, AML monitoring, real-time fraud warnings in-app, and TLS encryption on all transfers. As an extra feature, single-use virtual cards are available – their details are reset after each transaction. |
| Reputation | Revolut is rated 4.7/5 on Trustpilot based on nearly 400,000 reviews. In other places, the rating is also high: 4.9/5 on the App Store and 4.7/5 on Google Play (as of May 2026; subject to change). Millions of people trust Revolut. |
However, customer support is a common complaint. Responses can be slow, so if your account gets frozen by anti-fraud systems, solving the problem may take a while. To avoid that, switch to a paid plan and get priority answers.

What are the plan tiers?
Revolut offers five personal plans in the UK and EEA – Standard (free), Plus (3.99 GBP/month), Premium (7.99 GBP/month), Metal (14.99 GBP/month), and Ultra (45 GBP/month) – each with different fee-free exchange limits and weekend surcharge rates. See the full breakdown for UK customers below:
Data collected on May 6th, 2026 and may change by the time you read it.
| Plan | Monthly/annual price, GBP | Exchange with no additional fee/month | Discount on transfer fees | Weekend surcharge |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Free | up to 1,000 GBP | - | 1% |
| Plus | 3.99 / 40 | up to 3,000 GBP | - | 0.5% |
| Premium | 7.99 / 80 | Unlimited | 20% | 0% |
| Metal | 14.99 / 140 | Unlimited | 40% | 0% |
| Ultra | 45 / 540 | Unlimited | 100% | 0% |
You can find up-to-date pricing and plan details on https://www.revolut.com/our-pricing-plans/.
Note on the exchange limits with no additional fee. Every time you send money internationally, and a currency conversion is involved, the sum is deducted from your monthly exchange limit. The limit includes money currencies, crypto, and commodities – combined. Standard customers who exceed 1,000 GBP pay a 1% fair usage fee on the excess. Plus customers pay 0.5% above 3,000 GBP.
What is the cost of a transfer?
Revolut's total cost for an international transfer has two components: a transfer fee (charged per payment) and an exchange rate markup (charged when a currency conversion is involved). Both are shown in-app before you confirm, so you know how much your recipient gets. See the exact fees and markups below:
Transfer fees
Revolut charges a variable fee of 0.3% for international payments made in the local currency – such as sending EUR to France. There are also a minimum and maximum fee limits for each destination. For GBP-based senders, the cap for local-currency international payments are 0.30 GBP minimum and 5.00 GBP maximum. In practice, a 100 GBP transfer to India in INR costs 0.30 GBP; a 2,000 GBP transfer costs 5.00 GBP (as of May 2026; verify current rates at revolut.com before sending, as fees and rates are subject to change).
If you send a currency that is not local (GBP to Ghana, or USD to Brazil), you pay a flat minimum fee instead of the 0.3% rate. For GBP senders, this flat transfer fee is 3.00 GBP when sending USD, GBP, EUR, or CHF, and 5.00 GBP for any other currency.
Here is how this works in practice for GBP senders in 2026, directly from Revolut's pricing sheet:
| Local currency, GBP fee | Non-local currency (USD, GBP, EUR, CHF), GBP fee | Non-local currency (all others), GBP fee | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Example, GBP | USD→US, EUR→France, PLN→Poland | GBP→France, EUR→India | JPY→Germany, THB→UK |
| 10 | 0.30 | 3.00 | 5.00 |
| 100 | 0.30 | 3.00 | 5.00 |
| 500 | 1.50 | 3.00 | 5.00 |
| 2,000 | 5.00 | 3.00 | 5.00 |
| 10,000 | 5.00 | 3.00 | 5.00 |
Fees are subject to change, always check the full pricing sheet or calculator widget at revolut.com before confirming the transfer.
- Plan discounts on transfer fees
Premium plan holders receive a 20% discount on international transfer fees; Metal plan holders receive a 40% discount. Ultra plan holders pay no transfer fee at all on international money transfers. Standard and Plus customers pay the full rate.
- Free transfers
Transfers between two Revolut customers are free. Yet the exchange fees still apply if a currency conversion is involved. SEPA transfers within the Eurozone in EUR generally carry no transfer fee on any plan.
- SWIFT intermediary fees
For international SWIFT transfers, banks may deduct their own fees. Revolut doesn’t control or refund them. If your recipient needs to receive a specific amount in full, use the "Pay All Fees" option (where available), which charges a flat upfront fee and guarantees the recipient gets the full amount.
Exchange rate markup
Revolut adds a markup to the mid-market exchange rate (the one you see on Google) on all currency conversions; the exact percentage is not published and varies by currency pair. However, you will see the final rate in-app before confirming, not after you send. Also, keep in mind that exchanges between Friday 5pm and Sunday 6pm ET carry an additional weekend surcharge: 1% for Standard, 0.5% for Plus, and 0% for Premium, Metal, and Ultra. Sending on a weekday is always cheaper if you're on a lower plan.
Are there any transfer limits?
Revolut has no fixed monthly transfer limit for most currencies, but two types of caps can apply. First, your plan tier's monthly exchange allowance (Standard: 1,000 GBP; Plus: 3,000 GBP; Premium and above: unlimited) – exceeding it doesn’t block the transfer but triggers a fair usage fee on the excess. Second, payment partner limits may apply per transfer depending on destination and currency.
Specific limits: SEPA Instant Credit Transfers are capped at 100,000 EUR per transfer.
In short, there are no daily or monthly transfer limits in most cases, but when applied, you’ll be notified.
Tip: Large transfers are often slower due to the additional security checks. You can pre-notify Revolut through the app if you're expecting a high-value payment.
What transfer methods are supported?
Revolut supports four payout methods in 2026: bank deposit (via SWIFT or SEPA), card transfer, Revolut-to-Revolut, and mobile money wallet. Bank deposit requires the recipient to have a bank account with a valid BIC/SWIFT code; SEPA applies within the Eurozone. The remaining methods are described below.
Card transfer. Send directly to a recipient's Visa or Mastercard using their name and a 16-digit card number.
Revolut-to-Revolut transfer. Send to any Revolut customer using their phone number, email, or Revtag.
Mobile wallets. Send money directly to mobile wallet accounts using only the recipient's name and phone number or email.
“We’re delighted to launch Mobile Wallets so that Revolut customers can send money in a flash. Sending money home is a problem many expats face and so it is essential to provide a service that simplifies this and facilitates affordable and convenient international money transfers.” – Akshat Mittal, General Manager for Revolut International Payments, January 23rd, 2024.
