Taptap Send is a digital remittance platform which sends money to Africa, South Asia, and Latin America. The service claims to charge no transfer fees, but the costs are still included in the exchange rate markup. As for the speed, Taptap claims that 95% of payments arrive within three minutes. While Taptap Send covers 79 destination countries, it may not work for your specific corridor and transfer size. Find out whether the money transfer service suits you or not in our guide.

What is Taptap Send?

Taptap Send is a licensed money transfer service and Electronic Money Institution (EMI). Not a bank, so it’s limited in the services it can provide. As a regulated fintech payments company, it cannot offer loans, overdrafts, or credit cards. What Taptap can do is move money across borders

Interested in money transmitter licences? Here’s a full list of them:

  • UK: Authorised by the FCA as an EMI (FRN: 900842)
  • US: Registered with FinCEN (MSB number 31000306745734), licensed as a money transmitter in 40+ states including New York (NYDFS)
  • EU: Regulated by the National Bank of Belgium as a payment institution
  • Canada: Registered with FINTRAC
  • UAE: Authorised by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA)
  • Australia: Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL No. 559468)
  • New Zealand: Registered Financial Service Provider (FSP1009831)

More details on every money transmitter licence, per country and per regulator, are published at taptapsend.com/licenses. If there is a problem and Taptap Send cannot resolve it, you have the right to escalate directly to the listed authorities.

Is Taptap Send safe for remittances?

Yes. Taptap Send uses encryption, PCI compliance, and strong data protection. When the platform holds your funds during the remittance process, the money is kept in a legally separate account from company funds. Your funds cannot be used for company operations according to the financial regulations.

  • Security features

Taptap Send uses two-factor authentication, KYC (Know Your Customer) identity checks, AML (Anti-Money Laundering) monitoring, and Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption on all transfers. Card details are never stored directly by Taptap Send.

  • Customer data

Your data is kept for up to 10 years after you stop using the service, in line with standard AML requirements. You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data by contacting privacy@taptapsend.com.

  • Reputation

Taptap Send holds a 4.7 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot as of April 2026, with over 85% reviewers giving five stars (ratings change). Ratings on Google Play (4.8 from 262,000 reviews) and the App Store (4.8 from 59,000 reviews) tell the same story.

Which transfer methods does Taptap Send support?

Taptap Send has two sides to every transfer: how you fund it and how your recipient collects it. For funding, the accepted methods are debit card payments (Visa, Visa Electron, Mastercard, and Maestro), bank transfers, and select local payment methods. For payout, recipients can choose a bank deposit, mobile money, or cash pickup. More details:

  • Funding a transfer (pay-in methods)

Taptap Send accepts Visa, Visa Electron, Mastercard, and Maestro debit cards, as long as the card is not prepaid and is registered in your name. Corporate cards and American Express are not supported. In some countries, you can fund a transfer directly from your bank account via instant bank transfer, powered by Plaid. Customers sending from Belgium can also pay via Bancontact, and customers from Italy can use PostePay.

The available pay-in method for your country will appear at checkout automatically.

  • Receiving a transfer (payout methods)

Taptap Send offers three delivery options. Which ones are available depends entirely on the destination country.

Bank deposit: The money lands directly in the recipient's bank account. They do not need to do anything – the funds appear automatically. Taptap Send supports major providers like HBL, UBL, Access Bank, and Fidelity Bank, though the specific list depends on the country.

Mobile money: Funds go straight into the recipient’s mobile money wallet. Taptap Send works with providers like MTN Mobile Money, M-Pesa, Orange Money, JazzCash, Easypaisa, and bKash. Your recipient will get an SMS as soon as the money arrives.

Cash pickup: In some countries, your recipient can collect physical cash. They will receive a pickup code via SMS and just need to bring that code and a valid ID to a partner bank. In Bangladesh, for instance, they can head to BRAC Bank, Dutch-Bangla Bank, Bank Islami, Mutual Trust Bank, or Sonali Bank. You can check the exact pickup locations directly in the app before you send.

The service’s support has addressed its limits rules:

"Here at Taptap Send, we really care about your safety. Sometimes, we'll need to see proof of where you got the money you're transferring with us. This is a regulatory requirement for Taptap Send, and it helps us to make sure that our services are safe for everyone and free from money laundering." – Taptap Send support, Fixed sending limits FAQ.

Taptap Send shows a banner in the app before you hit your limit. Once you reach the cap, you will be asked to provide documentation showing the source of your funds. You may provide a payslip, bank statement, or employment contract. Submit documents directly through the app.

There are also per-transfer limits set by Taptap Send and receiving providers, which you can check for each destination in the Taptap Send FAQ. Mobile money wallets have their own caps. For example, if you send a transfer that exceeds your recipient's mobile wallet threshold, that transfer will not go through.

What are the fees and costs of remittances?

In most countries, Taptap Send doesn’t charge a transfer fee. Instead, the money transfer service adds a small percentage to the exchange rate (verify current pricing at taptapsend.com, as rates are subject to change). Taptap Send's cost formula works like this:

Total cost of the currency conversion = Exchange rate markup (%) + Fixed fee (where applicable)

Rather than charging a separate currency conversion fee, Taptap Send adds a bit to the mid-market exchange rate – the raw rate you see on Google or Bloomberg. The typical markup sits at around 0.7%, but it varies by destination (as of April 2026; rates subject to change at time of transfer). Taptap Send takes its pricing seriously:

"Taptap Send is taking advantage of this structural change in mobile money and other distribution networks to offer what we hope is the fastest and best price service to customers." – Michael Faye, CEO and co-founder, TechCrunch, June 2021

The company’s strategy is seen on these destinations (according to MoneyTransfer.com):

Destination Median markup
India 0.09%
Ghana 0.18%
Pakistan 0.20%
Sri Lanka 0.12%
West Africa XOF zone ~0%
Central Africa XAF zone ~0%
Thailand 0.67%
Philippines 1.05%

However, some destinations are much more expensive:

Destination Median markup
Guatemala 4.41%
South Korea 4.92%
Sierra Leone 7.60%
Rwanda 7.77%
Gambia 9.97%

  • Fixed fee

In certain routes, Taptap Send applies a fixed fee depending on your transfer amount. For example, sending under 125 GBP to Pakistan costs 0.99 GBP, but anything above that is free (verify current fees at taptapsend.com, as rates and fees subject to change). Check some other examples:

Sending country Destination Example amount Fee
US Haiti USD 100 USD 2.49
US Haiti USD 500 USD 6.99
UK Pakistan under GBP 125 GBP 0.99
Eurozone Pakistan EUR 100 EUR 0.99
Canada Pakistan CAD 100 CAD 0.99

How fast is Taptap Send?

MoneyTransfer.com states that 95% of Taptap Send transfers arrive within three minutes, with approximately 78% delivered in less than a minute (These are average delivery times as of the end of 2025. Your waiting times may vary – verify current speeds at taptapsend.com). So most transfers are same-day.

Delays do happen. Sometimes your bank may trigger its own checks, which can hold up a transfer – this is outside Taptap Send's control and is normal across the remittance industry.

The app shows an estimated delivery time on the confirmation screen before you send. If it looks longer than expected, you can always search for alternative faster services.

How do I send money with Taptap Send?

Sending money with Taptap Send takes five steps: registration, amount set-up, recipient details, payment, and tracking. Here is what each step involves.

  1. Download: Get the app on iOS or Android and create an account. You will need a phone number, email address, government-issued photo ID, and your home address.
  2. Calculate: Select your destination country and enter the amount you want to send (or the amount you want your recipient to receive). The app shows the exchange rate, any applicable fee, and the final recipient amount before you commit to anything.
  3. Add recipient: Enter your recipient's details, a mobile number for mobile money delivery, or bank account details for bank deposit. Double-check these carefully.
  4. Pay: Choose your funding method. Debit card or bank transfer, depending on what is available in your country.
  5. Track: Once confirmed, monitor the transfer status in your app. Processing times vary from minutes to days, so be patient.

If any questions appear, you can contact customer support via in-app chat, phone, or email at support@taptapsend.com. The service is available in Arabic, Bengali, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Tagalog, Twi, Urdu, and Wolof. The company promises to care about you as a customer:

"Our customers and the communities they represent are not an afterthought; they're the people for whom we're ultimately working.
